The Grove Family
This issue dedicated to Early Rutland describes the Grove Family’s lives in an article written by Dawn D. Hance.
A full length biography that begins with the earliest Groves, Nathaniel and Esther who settled in Rutland in 1784, it follows the generations that continued to be a major influence in town.
Active politically, as well as socially and economically they made major contributions to the community, and strengthened ties through marriage such as the Thralls and Chaffee’s.
Letters between and among families bring this article to life as do the illustrations of several generations of the extended family. Included are several photographs of homes, a drawing of Rutland Village and last but not least several recipes and home remedies by Sophia Grove.
